Episode 50: Postcard from Camogli, Liguria…Sea, Sunshine and Orange Blossoms, Italy Travel Share

Ciao from Italy and Welcome to Podcast #50

This was such a joy to record while still in Italy. It was Aperitvo hour and I was sitting at a little outdoor Cafe/Bar called Fatamorgana. It was late on a Sunday and I had just visited the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, one of the prettiest churches up on the edge of the sea with beautiful chandeliers dangling from the spectacular ceiling of frescoes.

I had spent the day exploring the seaside town of Santa Margherita and all was well in my world. Here are a few of the images and places I mentioned in Podcast #50….

Here is that plate of goodness I mentioned on the podcast, to enjoy with my Aperitivo. Basically, this is what it looks like when the kitchen is closed late Sunday. I love Italian life, it really is something else.
Revello - Pasticceria and Focacceria I mentioned in the Podcast. If you love focaccia and the sweets, this is your place. There is always a cue and each person wanders out with a bag laden with parcels. My favourite was the focaccia with formaggio, however there are many tempting possibilities, and so many beautiful Camogliesi traditional sweets to try.... Good Luck picking just which one!
Mornings in Camogli. This is also where you will find a boat to take you to San Fruttuoso Abbey, San Margherita and Portofino....

For the Ferry Service on the Gulf of Paradise…. Visit: Golfo Paradiso

The Beautiful Abbey of San Fruttuoso de Capodimonte
Built by Greek Monks in the middle of the National Park in the 10th Century. You can only reach this stunning destination by walking the trails or by sea. It makes for a wonderfully enchanting place where the sea is green and the beauty is vast.
Genova Nervi - Just a few minutes away from the train station. What a location another seaside beauty to visit if in Liguria
The beauty of the resort town Santa Margherita, just a four minute train ride from Camogli train station. I loved these train journeys, through mountain tunnels and the next thing you know you find yourself in heaven.
The Golfo Paradiso on the Riviera di Levante. Camogli has a fascinating history, back in 1798 Napoleon stopped with his navy ships and the village became known as the “city of a thousand white sails”…. Camogli was the destination for the naval college named after the Genoese Explorer and Navigator of the seas Christoforo Colombo. At once stage 500 of the Camogli residents were Ship Captains out of the 12000 people who lived in the village. These days Camogli mostly relies on tourism…..
