Episode 38: The Call of Provence: Books, Gardens and Travel Adventures in the Luberon

Next Instalment from the Padova to Paris Journey Podcast Series - Part 14

Welcome to Episode #38

Welcome to another share on the travelogue series from Italy to France. This day we find ourselves saying Au Revoir to beautiful Antibes on the French Riviera and heading onwards to Saint Paul de Vence to wander the historic medieval ramparts of this beautiful hill top village in France. And then back on the road to make our way to the Luberon region in the department of Vaucluse where an 18th century house in the countryside awaits our arrival.

“We don’t have a map so we just follow our noses wandering into the Porte de tour, the gateway of the village to discover ancient pathways, steps up into galleries, small alleys, historic buildings, boutiques and restaurants.  We follow the ramparts to discover historic fortifications and intriguing 14th century medieval walls and towers”.

The Beauty of Saint Paul de Vence in the heart of the hill top village / Michelle Johnston

A beautiful village to discover hidden alleys and views out into the countryside, about 40 minutes from Antibes on the Cote d’Azur…..

“Back on the road it is clearly obvious that I am not going to see Matisse’s Chapel in Vence because it is further away in another town. Vence is not the same as Saint Paul De Vence. Heart broken I understand why, we still have a two hour trip to our next stay in the Luberon. On the La Provencal road we stay focused on getting to Bonnieux.  On we go, though the classic vista of roads lined with ancient plane trees, bare and beautiful against the azure sky. It is nice the sun has peaked out again”.
