Episode 26: Into the Light, Lucca, Tuscany...Part 6 - The Padova to Paris Journey

Welcome to Episode #26.......

Join me for a little Italian Joy and the delights of an afternoon wandering the Tuscan town of Lucca.  The beauty of travel to me is leaving one molto bella historic city for another.  An hour and a half on the train and presto, we arrive at a medieval castle just outside the looming city wall that circumnavigates the centro storico.  A little wet because it was raining but we are seduced by the beauty of early in Spring in Italy.  Raining or not we enjoyed a wonderful dinner in Piazza San Michele (my namesake) always a good sign and revered the unfolding of another delightful travel adventure.

Henry James once said, "To Lucca I was not to return often - I was to return only once; when that compact and admirable little city, the very model of a small pays de Cocagne, overflowing with everything that makes for ease, for plenty, for beauty, for interest and good example, renewed for me, in the highest degree, its genial and robust appearance'.

Shownotes:

Jhumpa Lahiri - In Other Words....

An escape into language, possibility, excavation.  Written in English and Italiano, a delicate meditation on the fine art of learning a new language.  A book to read again and again.

Marlena de Blasi - A Thousand Days in Venice
On the Good Reads website it says “A short book of love, travel, food, and chance encounters”  Well that is seduction enough.
A languid journey of my own making through the beauty and love of the sensual life.  Reading propped up in bed with a endless cup of tea seems to the only way to read this book or perhaps in a bubble bath with a Mimosa in hand.
