Episode 20: The Heart of Verona….. The Family Trip - Part 3

Welcome to Episode #20: Verona, Veneto - Italy
The day began with a large yellow Mimosa heart wreath in the middle of the Corso Porto Nuova.  And that pretty much sets the stage for a day of exploring the Veneto town of Verona.  The star crossed lovers, the myth and the magic of Romeo and Juliet and the legacy of the della Scala family;  the Scalageri in the Piazza del Signori and beyond.   The Romanesque architecture, the castle walls, the grand palazzi on the River Adige, the Roman ruins, the pristine vicolo to wander along with a gelato in hand admiring the homes of terra-cotta, lemon and sienna, such beauty. And the ivy no less cascading from wrought iron balconies all made for a delightful day exploring this fabulous city.

What I am Reading at the Moment:

A Castle In Italy by Lina Waterfield -

I love this book and have waited a long while to read it because it is likely out of print. I ended up with a very old copy from a library in the U.S second hand off Amazon but I am very happy because after reading A Castle in Tuscany: The Remarkable Life of Janet Ross by Sarah Benjamin and A Tuscan Childhood by Kinta Beevor (Lina’s daughter) it is wonderful to go full circle and back to where it all began.....

Images and Shadows: Part of a Life by Iris Origo

Travels with My Aunt by Graham Green

Wild and Precious Life: A Hopeful Path forward in a Fractured World by Sarah Wilson - A book that will snap you the hell out of it, or that’s what it did to me.....ongoing journey I must say.  Wilson has a galvanising ability and shows by the way she lives her life, it doesn't have to be the same as anybody else.  I like that a lot.  Great on Audio too....
