Episode 14: Food For Thought: Cooking with Massimo and Friends, and Living the Simple Life

Welcome to Episode #14:  Food For Thought, Cooking from the Cookbook ‘Bread is Gold: Extraordinary Meals with Ordinary Ingredients’ as a project to see me though this year.  I have no doubt it will take me that long......And surrendering to the Simple Life as I know it.

Wow, things have changed so fast we barely know what will happen today nor tomorrow.  We are in the middle of unprecedented times, certainly in my own personal lifetime never mind my kids.  Italy is suffering so much as are most countries, and we are watching from the sidelines on guard to our own fate with this virus.  My prayers and thoughts are with those who are experiencing the harsh reality and pain of this time.

At this stage in Australia suddenly it is rapidly unfolding and governments have shut down schools this week and certain places are now on lockdown.  For myself and my own family I am careful how I deal with the stresses of this time and how I manage our lives on a daily basis.  Having deep conversations yet keeping the balance by getting outside and walking the path up to the pine forest for a little time out and cooking lots of treats.  Staying present with the good things that are in our life is a priority while all is well.
In the short term I am concentrating my energies on what I can do today that is creative, intentional and purposeful.  I have to admit part of me is unsure how to maintain the podcast at the moment but if I just make it happen regardless of my own insecurities well hopefully someone out there will get something out of it.

Creativity is called for in times of crisis.  And I think here in this little country town in Australia we are deeply lucky, we have so many needs met and so much to be grateful for no matter what inconveniences are in our lives right now.

Making the decision to flat out cook from the bountiful ‘Bread is Gold’ cookbook is not a light one.  It takes time, thought, intention, resourcefulness and conviction.  Time will tell about the conviction part however I am enjoying the process and finding my way even if I am slightly anxious how this will turn out.  Onwards I say.......

Please check out “Cooking with Massimo and Friends” Page for the details and cooking adventures.......Stay Tuned

Time to get outside and plant the broad beans and water the seedlings in the greenhouse.  It’s a great time to get into the garden and veggie patch no matter where you are in the world.  Create a little kitchen garden, plant rocket/arugula seeds they are so simple to get moving.  Propagate some plants like succulents or geranium, make and create things that make you happy.
